Why we started Klariq
We have both worked inside managed service providers. A lot of that work is good, and plenty of MSPs do right by their customers. But we also watched small businesses get signed onto long contracts that delivered very little, told they needed things they did not need, and left unable to leave without a fight.
That is the whole reason this exists. Not a mission statement, just the specific thing we did not want to do any more.
So the rules we set for ourselves are simple. Fixed prices agreed in writing before anything starts. No long tie-ins. If what you have already works, we say so and charge you nothing for saying it. And we never describe our support as unlimited or round the clock, because it is neither, and we would rather tell you that up front than in a dispute later.
Between us
Jack Davies
Jack works in IT full time and has spent a large part of his career inside a managed service provider, supporting a lot of small business tenants across a lot of very different setups. That is where most of what is on this site comes from: not theory, but the same problems turning up again and again in different companies.
Day to day that means Microsoft 365 administration, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Conditional Access, Defender and Purview, plus a fair amount of PowerShell when something needs doing properly rather than clicking through a portal several hundred times.
He has cleaned up after a business email compromise, run a lot of mailbox migrations, and dealt with the usual steady stream of phishing and malware that every small business eventually meets. He also builds the websites, which is why Klariq does both rather than farming one out.
Jake Shawcross
Jake is a second line IT engineer and has been in his current role for around 18 months, working in a large organisation where the systems are bigger and the processes are tighter than anything a small business runs. Before that he worked in a managed service provider, which is where he and Jack overlap.
Second line is a useful background for this kind of work. It is the layer where the easy things have already been tried and what is left is the awkward stuff: the account that will not behave, the mail that is not arriving, the device that will not enrol. Most of what a small business actually rings about lives at exactly that level.
At Klariq he works on Microsoft 365 and security alongside Jack, and is currently working towards AZ-900.
What that means for you
Between us we have worked across more than 300 client tenants over our careers. We are not going to pretend that makes us a large company, because it does not. What it means is that very little surprises us, and that when we tell you something is or is not worth doing, it is based on having watched it play out somewhere else.
It also means we know what we are not. We are two people. We are not a 24 hour operation, we do not have a service desk with fifteen staff on it, and there are jobs that are genuinely better suited to a larger provider. When that is the case we will tell you rather than take the work and struggle.
How we work
- Nothing starts without a written quote you have accepted. No verbal go-aheads, no work drifting into a bill you did not expect.
- Fixed prices, not day rates. You know what it costs before anyone starts, and if we find extra work along the way we quote it separately rather than adding it on.
- Response targets, not resolution promises. We will tell you how quickly we aim to come back to you during business hours. Nobody can honestly promise how long a fix takes until they have looked.
- Remote and on-site are priced separately. Most work is remote because it is faster. Where a visit is genuinely needed it is quoted as its own piece of work.
- Everything documented in plain English. You should be able to hand what we give you to your accountant, your insurer, or the next provider if you ever leave.
Where we work
IT and Microsoft 365 work is remote and on site across Wigan, Warrington, St Helens, Skelmersdale, Ormskirk and the wider Greater Manchester and Merseyside area. Website work is delivered remotely, so we can build for a business anywhere in the UK.
Klariq Limited is registered in England and Wales, company number 17346707, with its registered office in Skelmersdale.
The writing on this site
Everything in our guides is written by us, from work we have actually done. There are no gated downloads and no sign-up wall. If you want to do any of it yourself, everything you need is on the page, and we would rather you did it yourself than paid us for something you did not need.
